In an exquisite evening of music by Viennese composers, the Villiers Quartet explore the compelling world of musical transformation in central Europe: from the elegant contours of Schubert to the luminous sounds of pre-war composer Anton Webern; from the joyous music of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet - performed with Nottingham HS alum Matthew Glendening - to the symphonic chords of the Brahms quartets.

The Villiers Quartet celebrates the rich musical tradition of England in this programme of seminal works by English composers, including works by Purcell, Delius, Elgar, and a rare performance of the masterful Frank Bridge Piano Quintet in D minor. This evening also marks the release of the Villiers Quartet's landmark CD recording for Naxos of the Delius & Elgar Quartets – join them for this celebratory event!

“Russian Masterworks”


Tchiakovsky – Quartet in D Major, No. 1, Op. 11

Shostakovich – Quartet No. 3 in F Major, Op. 73


This afternoon concert showcases the works of two masterpieces from the Russian repertoire: Tchiakovsky's Quartet in D Major, which features the famous Andante Cantabile movement, and the blistering Third Quartet by Shostakovich. The audience are invited to join the musicians after the concert for coffee and tea.

The Villiers Chamber Music Course

The 'Music Course' is open for students and adult amateur musicians, before the  "Russian Masterworks" concert.
